Aluminium compounds are found extensive use in pharmaceuticals including intravenous fluids, antacid preparations, anti-diarrheal, buffered aspirin tablets, vaginal douches, and as formulation aids in diphtherias, tetanus and pertussis vaccine.
Aluminum ammonium sulphate is the aluminum and ammonium salt of sulphuric acid. It is odorless crystals with astringent taste used to purify drinking water and to manufacture baking powder and for maintaining the crispiness of vegetables in pickles. Aluminium ammonium sulfate is freely soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol.
It is used as a buffering agent to maintain acidity during food production. Within the EU, it is only permitted in Regulation 1130/2011 as a carrier in food additives and food enzymes.
